Every summer in between semesters at college in Ohio, I would venture out to Colorado and guide rafting tours of the Arkansas River. It didn't take long for me to realize that this was where I wanted to be. After graduation, I got a job with the US Forest Service in Granby, Colorado. What I thought was going to be a temporary transition has turned into my home.
During my time in Grand County, I've truly led the local lifestyle. From waiting tables to working in a ski shop, I've done it all. I have also grown to appreciate what hard work can produce in the end if you are willing to dedicate yourself to something. After I bought my home, I knew I wanted to help other people reach their goals in owning a piece of Grand County.

Peggy Smith fell in love with Grand County again when her children were old enough to learn to ski. After learning to ski at Berthoud Pass 40 years ago, Peggy spent many years skiing at Vail. A self-proclaimed “recovering Vailite,” Peggy and her family moved to Winter Park 9 years to enjoy the wide open spaces, the small town environment and to ski. Peggy still savors those powder days but mostly she is on the go following her two sons who are elite level alpine and freeride competitors when she is not selling real estate or building a new house.
Building houses has become a passion for Peggy, together with her husband, architect Peter Nelson, they have built 5 homes. She will tell you, “I love the idea of taking a dream, drawing it on a piece of paper and then organizing the team and buying the materials. I feel like a coach who’s team won the Olympic Gold Medal on moving day!” In her spare time, Peggy is on the Town of Fraser Planning Board and the Fox Run Affordable Housing Board of Directors. |

In the summer of 1979 I drove across country from Chicago to move to Denver. When I pulled into Denver I got a call to come to Winter Park for a party. Great party, great place, and I knew that I was home. After that weekend I never left. Skiing was my passion and I proceeded to build the largest and best ski shops that Winter Park had to offer Ski Depot Sports. I met my wife and raised my family here in Winter Park over the next twenty years.
I cut my teeth in Development with a purchase of 10 acres in Lakota and built Dreamcatcher at Lakota a great duplex community. Purchased many rental properties and purchased Park Plaza Shopping Center. I learned the commercial landlord business and still wanted more. I knew real estate was my ultimate passion and in 2001 sold Ski Depot Sports which I am proud to say is still operating and serving Winter Park skiers today and jumped into development and real estate sales immediately.
Over the next six years I have been the Sales Manager of real estate sales at Grand Elk Ranch and Club. I became the managing Broker and purchased the Coldwell Banker franchise for Granby focusing on Grand Elk sales. I continued with development of a 44 unit duplex community within Grand Elk Elk Track Village which is currently building and selling in Grand Elk.
I started a new company Grand Quarters which sells quarter share ownership in 2004. I truly believe that Quarter Share sales and ownership is the future of resort property here in Grand County and throughout the world. Grand County is my home and playground. I was raised on the East Coast but moved to Colorado in 1980. The blue skies, sunny days and incredible people captured me from my first visit. After spending two years in Denver, my husband and I decided to live our dream and move to a mountain community in September of 1983. Winter Park is an incredible community in which to live, play, raise children, work and enjoy life.
Having been raised in the outskirts of a huge city, I still occasionally need the hustle and bustle of those urban settings. Denver is just a 1 ½ hour drive away, which provides sporting events, shopping, cultural venues, nightlife, etc. This has proven to be the perfect combination for me.
After many years of working in the real estate business for a competing company, I was given the opportunity to join Coldwell Banker Mountain Properties in August, 2008 as their Managing Broker. Once I made the decision to accept the position, the transition was smooth and the absolute correct and best move in my career.
